What Web4good does
Mission
To improve the societal impact of the world wide web through charitable activities powered by science and technology. Web4good aims to provide the world with a premier forum for the discussion and debate about the evolution of the web, the standardization of its associated technologies, and the impact of those technologies on society and culture.
As stated on its FY2019 Form 990.
Program
The web conference (formerly known as www conference) is a yearly international conference on research related to the world wide web. The conference began in 1994 at cern and is organized each year by a local team of volunteers in different parts of the world who come together to organize the conference in collaboration with the international world wide web conferences steering committee (iw3c2). The conference aims to provide the world with a premier forum for discussion and debate about information technologies used in the web and its evolution, the standardization of its associated technologies, and the impact of those technologies on society and culture. The conference brings together researchers, policy makers, developers, users and commercial ventures - indeed all those who are passionate about the web and what it has to offer. In may 2019, Web4good hosted the web conference in san francisco, california, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the web with more than 50% of the world's population able to access the web via internet. During the week we reflected on the past 30 years of the web and planned together for the future of it, to rethink a web that is truly inclusive and…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2018, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2018, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2018 to 2019, from $201k to $223k (+11%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
23% of WEB4GOOD’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (97% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 80% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of WEB4GOOD’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
WEB4GOOD leans on a few funders — its largest provides 80% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
80% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WEB4GOOD.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
80% of WEB4GOOD's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $5k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from California funders.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $20k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
