01What it does

What Voters for Animal Rights Inc does

Mission

Voters For Animal Rights mission is to help elect candidates who support animal protection, lobby for strong laws to stop animal cruelty, and hold elected officials accountable to humane voters. We work to gain legally enforceable fundamental rights for animals by codifying animal rights into law. VFAR focuses exclusively on political advocacy for animals in New York. We mobilize voters and organize lobbying efforts to give a voice to animals. Through the political process, we are building a coalition of advocates seeking to strike at the root cause of animal abuse and cruelty, which is a lack of fundamental rights and laws to protect them.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. Legislative activities included advancing legislation to prohibit glue traps, prohibit octopus farming, prohibit horse carriages, prohibit rodeos, prohibit elephants in zoos, and prohibit the sale of birds in pet shops. Advanced legislation to expand pet-friendly housing and to protect workers with pets. Advocated for public funding for spay/neuter programs, affordable veterinary care, and pet food pantries. Defending the NYC foie gras ban.

How concentrated its funding is

Voters for Animal Rights Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 78% of grant income and the top three 99%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

99% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Voters for Animal Rights Inc.
