What Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 491 does
Mission
To assist disabled and needy war veterans and their families, assist widows and children of deceased veterans, assist members of the armed forces.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Program
Programs that foster patriotism - on memorial and veterans day the post honors those who died to keep our country free and acknowledge the active duty and retired veterans for their service. At the ceremonies there is a presentation of wreaths for each branch of the armed services and a gun salute. The post participates in the annual groveville-yardville memorial day parade. The post attends funerals of veterans: we cover the casket with the american flag, provide a gun salute and present the folded american flag to the loved ones. The post has wheelchairs, walkers, and canes which we provide to veterans free of charge. The post also purchases items that disabled veterans need. The post is a collection center for toys for tots. The post assists local veteran organizations, scouts, and youth sports with donations, meeting space, and additional support.
The program described on its FY2025 Form 990.
The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $775k to $537k (−31%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 12%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 1 of the last 6 reported years ran a deficit.

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
