01What it does

What Touching Families Inc does

Mission

As a nonprofit organization, the agency's mission is to enhance the lives of children, families and individuals by building opportunities through partnerships and community based support services.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Fact since its inception, Touching Families Inc. Has served an estimated 7,580 families and 17,281 children through the allegheny county department of human services (dhs), office of children, youth, and families (ocyf). The agency is contracted to provide family and community teaming (fact) services to families residing in allegheny county who are non-active with the ocyf. Referrals for services are primarily made through ocyf or are community-based. Fact is a voluntary service that helps families develop a plan based on family strengths and needs. Fact utilizes the department of human services model of conference and teaming. These activities include the use of common assessments tools such as the family and strengths tool (fast), facilitation and support of family conferences and team meetings with the goal of developing a family plan to address the needs of the family; integrating formal and informal support systems; and supporting the use of promising and evidence-based practices as outlined by dhs.

  2. Summer food service program the summer food service program (sfsp) was established to ensure that eligible children receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Free meals, which meet federal nutrition guidelines, are provided to all children at approved sfsp sites. The sfsp operates primarily in the summer months from may through september, and this is based on the site's school district calendar. Touching families, inc. Believes that developing community partnerships is a core foundation for building strong and healthy individuals, children, and families. Through community partnerships, the organization was able to answer a need to be a summer food sponsor that was seen as critical in assisting to meet the nutritional needs of children over the summer across allegheny county. Since starting the summer food program initiative in 2012, touching families, inc. Has grown from serving 5,200 meals to servicing over 61,917 meals to date, and increasing community site partnerships to help meet the nutritional needs of children.
