What The Kearns Prize Inc does
Mission
The kearns prize for innovation identifies and promotes those who are bringing truly innovative solutions to education. Created to honor david t. Kearns, former ceo of xerox and former deputy secretary of education, the winner of the kearns prize will receive a large monetary award. The organization seeks to celebrate david and his work by highlighting and assisting leading innovators to advance and scale their solutions.
As stated on its FY2022 Form 990.
Program
In 2024, the kearns prize worked closely with vanderbilt university and the alexander institute to create a new program called the alexander fellows program, developing a curriculum focused on civics and us history. This curriculum will be made available to public school teachers from around the country in a summer program administered by vanderbilt university. It will also involve a year-long capstone initiative, followed by a second summer session (total of 12 months.). The kearns prize team will continue to serve as advisors to the program.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2019, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2019, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $288k to $166k (−42%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
68% of THE KEARNS PRIZE INC’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (65% for the typical peer).

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
