What The Garden Club of Norfolk does
Mission
The purpose of The Garden Club of Norfolk shall be to inspire the knowledge and love of gardening; to celebrate and practice the art of floral design; to support the restoration of historical gardens, to actively conserve and protect our natural environment, and to ensure the preservation of America's beauty and natural heritage for future generations.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
The Garden Club of Norfolk supports a variety of different projects and organizations in the community. In 2021, the club provided $6,000 to the CHKD Lighting the Way for Mental Health Initiative for a garden at the CHKD Mental Health Hospital, $230.02 to the gardens at Lake Taylor Transitional Home, $153.00 to the beautification of Wisconsin Square, and $100 each to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Elizabeth River Project, Scenic Virginia, and the Virginia Conservation Network. The GCN also donated $2,374.51 of a much larger pledge to The Olmsted Initiative, a club collaboration with the City of Norfolk, Elizabeth River Trail, neighboring communities, and donors to plant native trees and shrubs at the ERT Trailhead in honor of Frederick Law Olmsted. Olmsted believed public parks were important for an individual's health and wellbeing and that public parks were the great social equalizer because they welcome everyone. Olmsted's vision was to design beautiful spaces using the best of what Nature produces to create a place of respite for the human spirit.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2019, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2019, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $523k to $158k (−70%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of The Garden Club of Norfolk’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of The Garden Club of Norfolk's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $5k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
