What The American Legion Post 12 does
Mission
The mission is to promote the social welfare of the community; assist needy and disabled veterans; perpetuate the memory of deceased veterans; sponsor activities of a patriotic nature; and provide social and recreational activities for members.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Fund two scholarships each year. The scholarship is not a needs-based scholarship program but rather one where eligible high school seniors compete for the awards. The candidates need to demonstrate a tie to veterans either through family or community service. Direct support of American Legion events will earn additional consideration. No scholarships were awarded for the year ending August 31 2023.
$0 spentThe Veteran of the Month Flag Raising Program is held the first Sunday of each month and honors deceased veterans. The post hosts nine ceremonies per year.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $465k to $481k (+3%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 3 of the last 6 reported years ran a deficit.

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
