01What it does

What Synergistic Hawaii Agriculture Council does

Mission

The improvement and development of the hawaii coffee, floriculture/nursery, macadamia nuts, and papaya industries through research and development, marketing and promotion, and education and cooperation on a non-partisan basis.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Using nifa funds, a wide range of coffee leaf rust research activities are underway in hawaii and puerto rico. Results are helping to refine agronomic refinements in the field as well as the proper timing and application of fungicidal sprays. The intent is to reduce crop damage caused by infections. Growers have become interested in the research as the economic burden of managing the case of susceptible trees continue to increase. Stakeholders have taken a proactive role in assisting scientists with identifying varieties currently in the field and communicating their preferences on the taste profile.

  2. Using usda fas marketing access program (map) and regional agricultural promotion program (rapp) funding, shac funded marketing activities in taiwan, canada, and japan as well as the purchase of the 'ka'u coffee' trade name from its former owner. Activities included trade show activities, social media, market studies, reverse trade missions and the development of photographic and video media.

  3. Using usda agriculture research service funding, shac is funding research to facilitate the diagnosis and remediation of coffee pests, diseases and nutrient deficiencies and toxicities by producing an ai driven app.

Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
