What Spirit of Matthew 25 does

Mission

Spirit of Matthew 25 is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Specifically, the purpose of Spirit of Matthew 25 is to renew hope through generosity and love by offering food to people in need in the region surrounding Coon Rapids, Minnesota, while reducing the environmental impact of food waste.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

The food was acquired via food rescue from our food donation network. In addition to 116 food giveaway events, Spirit of Matthew 25 delivered food monthly to two subsidized apartment complexes, packed culturally relevant food in the backpacks of kids at Mississippi Elementary during the school year, provided snacks to three addiction recovery groups, and provided food and hygiene supplies to the Dignity Pantry at Coon Rapids High School. We also offered 16 community garden plots to the public and had our own garden space to produce food for our giveaways. Our community garden program allowed us to provide 2,300 extra servings of fresh produce at our food giveaway events. 98% of our food is rescued food. We had 52% more visits in 2025 than in 2024. Our food rescue and composting efforts resulted in the avoidance of 628 metric tons of CO2e from being released into the environment. This has an effect equivalent to removing 149…
