What Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association does
Mission
To support the teaching of instrumental music at all grade levels in southern california by providing educational guidance and expertise to music educators and students. We accomplish this through conferences/clinics, festival/field championships, parades, honor groups, concerts for students in southern california.
As stated on its FY2026 Form 990.
Programs
Field adjudication/championship - field adjudication performs similar functions to those of parade adjudication, but as they apply to competitive marching events held on the football field. Of more recent origin, this area of activity has been growing in popularity among school bands in southern california. Local tournament hosts contract with scsboa to provide adjudication that is consistent with the goals of music education and to ensure to potential entrants that such goals will guide the planning and execution of the event. In recognition of the popularity of field performance scsboa provides for the membership a season-culminating championship event administered directly by the association for the purpose of acknowledging outstanding achievement while maintaning adherence to the philosophical tenets of music education.

We believe that the comments and suggestions of these adjudicators will help the improvement of each soloist, ensemble or performing organization. The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $544k to $757k (+39%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
