01What it does

What Reimagine Gender does

Mission

Reimagine gender helps organizations, policy makers, and families understand and address gender to help others thrive. The challenges we face today require new ideas and approaches, and that's possible only when everyone brings their unique perspective, skills, creativity, and experience to solving our most perplexing issues.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. GENDER PLAYBOOK: Reimagine Gender offers services designed to educate companies and other organizations about gender and empower leaders to apply a gender lens across the organization. We offer trainings for leaders and practitioners, custom workshops, consulting, educational content and more. Outr tools, programming and guidance help organizations reimagine gender so they can thrive far into the future. This year we supported clients in government, NGOs and public and private companies, including, but not limited to: Synchrony, Omnicom, The Hartford, Womens Fund of Central Ohio, Asana, Mattel, USCIS, Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, World Wildlife Federation, Salesforce, University of Illinois

  2. Global Partners Initiative: Supporting initiatives and partnering with organizations in furtherance of educating and promoting culturally- based inclusive understandings of gender. The Global Partners Initiative provides support to nonprofits and other organizations outside the United States as they seek to understand gender in their work and provide their constituents and partners with training and education on gender. This year we worked with Beirut DC, an organization in Lebanon focused on the development of independent Arab films. Reimagine Gender provides consultation, materials and education on gender to the team working on this initiative, and collaborate with them on a "mom to mom" program where moms can learn about gender and discuss how to support their children.

  3. Gender ED: Gender Ed is an education program that aims to help parents, families, and the general public understand evolving concepts of gender and the implications it has for them in various aspects of their lives.

The 3 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ. Program spending in total: $87,916.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2022: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income fell $732k → $97k.

1 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 21% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Reimagine Gender’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Reimagine Gender leans on a few funders — its largest provides 79% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Reimagine Gender.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of Reimagine Gender's grant income comes from California funders.

California out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $197k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
