What PQA Inc does

Mission

Optimizing health by advancing the quality of medication use.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Quality Measurement - PQA is a developer and steward of medication-use quality measures focused on medication safety, adherence, and appropriate use. Through a transparent, consensus-based process, PQA develops, tests, refines, and maintains measures that address gaps in priority areas and support national quality goals. PQA quality measures are used in CMS quality programs, including Medicare Part D, the Health Insurance Marketplace, and Medicaid. More than 150 million people are enrolled in health plans that report PQA measure results, making them among the most impactful tools for optimizing medication therapy, driving positive impacts for patients, and substantial costs avoided for the health care system as a whole.

  2. Research - The PQA Quality Innovation and Research Center (QuIRC) advances the science of medication-use quality through research, innovation, and collaboration. QuIRC develops next-generation quality measures and tools, identifies opportunities to improve medication use and management, and supports effective measure implementation through pilot projects, demonstration programs, research initiatives, and consensus-building activities. By bringing together key stakeholders, QuIRC helps address complex challenges and improve patient outcomes. In 2025, PQA's research initiatives advanced efforts to identify methodologies for evaluating adherence and persistence to oral anticancer medications; identified strategies to improve the quality of medication therapy management (MTM); and piloted pharmacy-based immunization measure concepts in value-based arrangements.
