What Outcomes Research Institute does
Mission
Outcomes Research Institute is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to support development and use of performance evidence on education programs in the united states. It makes grants to organizations and independent researchers who 1)conduct primary research and/or original data collection that can shed new light on k-12 education and the success of efforts to improve it; or 2)help to build the capacity of policy-making entities to use performance in policy decisions. Grants are generally under $20,000 and are tied to specific work products or deliverables. Outcomes Research Institute does not make grants for capital programs or general operating support.
As stated on its FY2019 Form 990.
Programs
ORI provided one major grant to the ifo Institute for international education research. This recognizes that education policies are crucial for individual prosperity and for future inequality. When investigating how to improve both the level and the distribution of educational outcomes insights from education policy research within the U.S. is fruitfully complemented by the use of international data. This project has produced a series of papers on economic growth COVID policies and how non-school factors affect achievement.
A second grant was provided to Empower Schools a charitable organization that partners with communities to help them get the schools they want with the results their students need. We provided a entry-level sponsorship for their annual Innovation Conference.
The 2 programs described on its FY2025 Form 990-PF.
The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2019, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2019, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $304k to $50k (−84%).
Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
