Programs

  1. Transit and transportation programnewmarket shuttlessince early 2022, the bid has operated four shuttles that crisscross the district, connecting all parts of newmarket to the red line at andrew station, the orange line at ruggles station, and the fairmount commuter rail line at newmarket station. Together, these four routes serve an average of 13,000 riders per month and have provided over 400,000 total rides since the bid started operations.like everything we do, the newmarket shuttles are free to all residents, employees, and property owners in newmarket. Over the past three years, our shuttle routes have evolved to best fit the needs of our stakeholders; these adjustments have been made in order to meet demand where and when our property owners have required it.revolutionizing the fairmount-indigo commuter lineas a member of the fairmount indigo transit coalition, newmarket has played a leading role in advocating for improvements to the fairmount commuter rail line, which runs through the center of the district. Prior to 2020, trains only ran once per hour or less along the line, but thanks to constant advocacy and promotion, which saw the fairmount line rebound post-covid…

  2. Back2work programin 2018, the newmarket business association, now the newmarket business improvement district (bid), promoted a workforce development program for the homeless to the city, and while it was well received at the time, boston did not have the ability to assist in funding it. In early 2021, newmarket began funding the program ourselves and for the past year and a half, the newmarket business improvement district has managed the program focused on providing low-threshold same-day work for individuals experiencing shelter instability, homelessness and/or a substance use disorder.this effort acknowledges the barriers that these individuals face in both applying for jobs, as well as maintaining their employment, and creates a lower barrier approach to suit their needs.as a result of our early success, the boston department of public health has assisted us with funding during the past year which has led to a significant expansion of the program. We have now assisted over 150 individuals to achieve a life of sobriety and stability.through this initiative, the newmarket bid employs homeless and housing challenged individuals in the mass and cass area to provide supplemental…

  3. Safety and security programa priority for the bid is the safety and well-being of all those living, working, and visiting the district. In june 2022, new england security became our partners and provides 24/7 supplemental security throughout the area.while boston police and ems do a tremendous job in our area, our safety team provides another set of eyes and "an added layer of protection." our team is able to reduce the number of potential 911 calls by providing rapid response in the district to a wide range of lower-level infractions. In the first 5 months, 911 calls were down approximately 13% and our bid security officers have developed strong relationships with the police, business owners and residents and have earned the respect and trust of those living on the streets.over the past three years, the newmarket security team has answered hundreds of calls from our businesses and residents every single month, and maintained an average response time of under five minutes. In addition to direct responses to stakeholder calls, our officers proactively address many more incidents before they rise to the level of affecting our stakeholders. All in all, the bid's security team has…
