What National Society of Professional Engineers does
Mission
To foster licensed professional engineers in service to society.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
National Society of Professional Engineers (nspe), in partnership with the state societies, is the organization of licensed professional engineers and engineer interns. Through education, licensure advocacy, leadership training, multi-disciplinary networking, and outreach, nspe enhances the image of its members and their ability to ethically and professionally practice engineering. The goals of the organization are: to foster chapter-state-national partnerships to seamlessly deliver a core level of service to every member; deliver value to our members that enhances their competence and ability to practice as a professional engineer; increase membership to serve and represent the collective interests of all licensed professional engineers and engineer interns; advocate u.s. Public policy pertaining to engineering matters in the interest of enhancing public health, safety, and welfare. The organization services approximately 22,000 members, 46 state and territorial societies, and 350 local chapters.
A major division of nspe is the national institute for certification in engineering technologies (nicet). Nicet is responsible for the testing and certification of engineering technicians and technologists throughout the united states. Nicet administers examinations each year to entry-level applicants and to career technicians seeking to upgrade their certifications.
Media & communications programs: the society publishes pe magazine, which covers professional, legal, and ethical issues of concern to the engineering profession. The magazine is published 4 times per year, with a circulation of approximately 64,000 printed copies and 48,000 digital copies over the course of the year.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $12M to $14M (+17%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 4 of the last 9 reported years ran a deficit.

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
