What Nancys Place does

Mission

Nancys Place is a 501c3 non-profit a non-stock corporation established under the laws of the State of Iowa. It is a housing organization formed and operated to provide safe quality and affordable housing to low-income individuals with intellectual and mental disabilities. To achieve this mission Nancys Place also provides educational material that can be utilized by family friends social workers and all other supporters of individuals with disabilities to acquire the necessary services that will lead them to live fulfilling lives in their community.

Programs

  1. Affordable Housing Program: We are in the early stages of fundraising to purchase our first property so we can provide safe comfortable affordable housing options for individuals with intellectual and mental disabilities. We aim to give each person the dignity of a home they can call their own allowing them to live independently and securely within the community. Each home we purchase will be able to accommodate 3 to 4 individuals with a disability.

  2. W.A.V.E.S Educational Guide Distribution: Our second major initiative in the pipeline is the distribution of our W.A.V.E.S Guide. This comprehensive educational resource is designed for families social workers and supporters of individuals with disabilities. It covers crucial topics such as guardianship conservatorship special needs trusts and most importantly how to qualify for housing. We have recently established a promising partnership with the Des Moines Community School District. We are exploring similar collaborations with other school districts to distribute this guide more widely and reach as many families as possible.

  3. Legal Partnership Network: Our third focus area is the creation of a Legal Partnership Network. This initiative aims to connect families with legal professionals who can assist them with guardianship conservatorship and special needs trust matters. We are currently in talks with several law firms intending to offer affordable legal services to needy families. The network will also provide pro bono assistance and organize complimentary legal workshops educating our community on these vital topics. As we establish our footing as a non-profit we are excited about the potential of these programs and the impact they can have on our community. This network is a feature included in our educational guide for obtaining housing.
