Mission

Agricultural, education and training

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Agriculture, education and training. These are the major purposes of the organization. It is only logical that the majority of the expenses that were paid were for these activities.

  2. Several yeas ago, we started purchasing benches to be placed along the walkways throughout the gardens. Last year, we were asked if individuals would be permitted to purchase them in honor or memory of loved ones or friends. This seemed like a good fundraising activity. Several benches had been placed on pads, that are adjacent to the sidewalks. All we needed were the plaques identifying the individual(s) being recoginized with the bench. Next year, 2026 a new line item has been established so that we will be able to track the purchasing of the benches by individuals (listed under account number 154a). The purchasing of the additional benches and plaques will go against account number 254a. During 2025, account number 254 was used. There was 900 spent for plaques. We received 1900 for the benches sold.

  3. We had intended to add more sidewalk during this year because we received donations that would cover the majority of the cost. An agreement between the cement contractor and mgv. He offered to donate a section of the walkways which would have completed the sidewalk we wanted. Unfortunately, his schedule and the weather prevented this from happening. Next year, we will have the walkways. Another activity we have started was music in the gardens. This was an outreach into the community to provide free music entertainment. A freewill donation was collected during each performance. The months of june through august were times these programs were held. The cost of the program was 1228 most of which was collected but it was not a fundraiser. It was a way of giving back to springfield for their support. The payment came from account 203b and the donations were placed in account 103.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 46% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of MASTER GARDENERS OF CLARK COUNTY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

MASTER GARDENERS OF CLARK COUNTY leans on a few funders — its largest provides 54% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

46% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MASTER GARDENERS OF CLARK COUNTY.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

100% of MASTER GARDENERS OF CLARK COUNTY's grant income comes from Ohio funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $11k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
