What Manu does
Mission
The corporation is organized for the charitable, educational and scientific purpose of supporting biological research, protection of wildlife and habitat management in amozonian coutries.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Biodiversity science - We conducted camera trap research to quantify the ecological importance of mineral licks in lowland Amazonia, with a focus on primate communities and other vertebrates. This work is generating key insights into species use of critical resources and informing conservation priorities. In parallel, we supported biodiversity monitoring of insect communities, contributing baseline data on poorly studied taxa essential for ecosystem functioning. Ecological restoration - We supported restoration efforts in the Andes-Amazon region of Peru using native species, including reforestation of areas affected by fire. These efforts contributed to habitat recovery, increased vegetation cover, and the re-establishment of ecological processes in degraded landscapes.

The organization over time

Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $180k to $269k (+50%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
100% of MANU’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (88% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 3% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration.
