What Kallion Leadership does
Mission
Kallion Leadership designs and develops learning communities for anyone committed to leadership development through the study of the humanities. Kallion creates and facilitates experiences and resources for diverse, interdisciplinary, and inclusive communities of learners, professionals, and educators who are committed to leadership development grounded in the study of the humanities. Through high-quality and accessible programming, Kallion promotes the vitality of the humanities for leadership development for all.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
Kallion Circles are communities that practice "thinking with" each other through an investigation of humanities artifact(s). Kallion Circles serve people of all different backgrounds and experiences in their leadership development. Everyone in a Kallion Circle contributes to the leadership development of each other through questions, observations, and personal testimonials shared in an intimate discussion group. Circle participants reflect on their own abilities and desires to lead by considering humanities artifacts from a wide range of genres and time periods through new perspectives. In 2024, Kallion hosted 3 Circles facilitated by 2 Kallion facilitators for 30 participants.
$2,000 spent100% of program spendingKallion hosted a facilitator training workshop in Washington, DC in July 31-August 3, 2024. 11 facilitator fellows from construction, hospitality, media, higher education, and K-12 education were training in Kallion facilitation methods for humanities-based leadership education and gained practice experience and feedback. The event was led by the Kallion co-executive directors and 2 facilitator trainers. Participants have gone on to facilitate humanities-based leadership events in their own organizations and communities.
$0 spent0% of program spendingKallion laid the groundwork for a workshop at Georgetown University with the Masters in Engaged and Public Humanities program on the topic of public humanities and leadership development. The event (hosted in March 2025) is aimed at graduate students, faculty, and community members in Washington, DC to explore the ways in which public humanities practice aids in the leadership development of the public, and how humanities education can promote leadership development in and outside of the classroom.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $10k to $13k (+28%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
63% of KALLION LEADERSHIP’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (78% for the typical peer).
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 2 of the last 4 reported years ran a deficit.

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of KALLION LEADERSHIP’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of KALLION LEADERSHIP's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $5k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
