01What it does

What Friends of Village X Inc does

Mission

Village X crowdfunds donations for village-led development projects in Malawi. We are currently a 100% volunteer organization, which allows us to keep our fixed costs low and deliver as much donation money as possible to extreme poverty villages in rural Malawi in the form of grants. Villages also contribute their hard-earned cash to finance these projects.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. Village X disbursed grants for multiple community-led projects in rural Malawi, such as water wells, nursery schools, and solar charging stations. A registered Malawian NGO facilitated identification of projects, delivery of grants to villages, and the reporting of project impacts via smartphone. As we have done in previous years, we posted pictures and videos of projects to our website and sent email notifications to donors so that they could see the direct impacts of their giving.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of FRIENDS OF VILLAGE X INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of FRIENDS OF VILLAGE X INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $195k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
