What Eye & I Inc does
Mission
Eye & I Is an art and education organization supporting art and community education programs in Africa and the diaspora. In 2021 we began working on our first short film which was supported by the Museum of the African Diaspora. This project will create space to have conversations around decolonization and affirming identities of people of African descent. We are also in production with our first public mural project based in Newark NJ. This this is a collaboration with young women and non-binary people to promote positive identities within Newark. We are continuing to collaborate with the Nenneh Children Fund in Sierra Leone to sustain the arts in education project facilitating workshops so that young people will have the opportunity to build literacy and communication skills using the arts. Finally Eye & I publishing is slowly growing with our second artist publication Hala: An unexpected Gift.
As stated on its FY2021 Form 990-EZ.
Program
Our on-going collaboration with the Nenneh Children School in Sierra Leone West Africa allows us to create curriculum provide professional development workshops for teachers and art workshops for students. This year we purchased new equipment and our lead educator principal Remi Saunders is currently in Sierra Leone working with the young people. Ms. Saunders spends half of the year on-location. This project supports approximately 150 students and 20 educators in Sierra Leone W. Africa.
