What Erik James Montgomery Foundation does
Mission
The Erik James Montgomery Foundation creates photographic public art to inform the entire world about the world they live in. Additionally, the adolescents in our programs learn important strategies to overcome low self-esteem, unrealistic self image and sub-standard academic scores. This is accomplished through short and long-term workshops held at public schools, professional photography studios, correctional facilities, churches and community centers. Photography is one the most popular art forms in the world today. Over the past 150 years, people were able to learn and discover distant foreign la vastness of outer space and the uniqueness of oneself through the vehicle of photography. Today, with the advancement of technology, photography will continue to be the major form of world communication through art. The Erik James Montgomery Foundation will continue to create platforms throughout the world for people to learn, explore and express themselves through photography.
As stated on its FY2021 Form 990-EZ.

$5,000 spentof which $5,000 as grants10% of program spendingSuccessful Camp Season: Camp Winonah was able to serve nearly 100 youth at our overnight summer camp located in Harriman, NY. These children, ages 6-13, mainly reside in underserved communities of Newark, NJ. Most of them have never left their 12 block neighborhood so to travel 45 minutes away from them is not only an adventure but also a positive experience for the noise and at times, acts of senseless violence. The children enjoyed sessions ranging from 1 - 3 weeks where they experiences living in a cabin, swimming, arts and crafts and photography, hiking, nature education and much more. Additionally, the campers participated in life-skills workshops in order to become more aware of themselves, their feelings, and the necessity of being the best versions of themselves. Camp Winonah was able to provide summer programming directly from the financial contributions from the Victoria Foundation and Fresh Air Fund.

Participants learned cell phone photography, analog/film photography, photo collages, and much more. Most of the workshops and residencies included a self portrait component where the students learned the importance of positive self-imagery. Many of the host schools provided space for the students to exhibit the artwork during their respective culminating events.
