01What it does

What Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi (Aal) does

Mission

Electric cooperative of mississippi (ecm) helps its members provide affordable, reliable electricity to mississippians by building support around governmental and business leaders and by delivering shared services that are mutually beneficial. Ecm enables its members to achieve greater measures of strength and success by combining voices to tell the story of the value of rural electric cooperatives.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Through the governmental relations program, ecm's goal is to ensure that legislation and regulations will promote its member's system's ability to provide safe, reliable and affordable electicity. This is accomplished by educating legislators about mississippi's electic cooperatives, monitoring legislation which affects its cooperative's and coordinating efforts to influence and pass needed legislation.

  2. Ecm's comminication's department publishes a monthly magazine that writes about the people and places that make mississippi a special place to live. The magazine educates and informs members of mississippi's electric cooperatives with the latest news regarding their cooperatives. The department also supports a leadership program for high school students in mississippi, which includes a 3 day workshop and a trip to washington dc. Students meet legislators, tour monuments, and learn about electric cooperatives.

  3. Ecm conducts a comprehensive safety and loss control program for its members. Linemen employed by ecm members are educated on how to safely conduct their profession in order to benefit members of mississippi's electric cooperatives.

  4. Ecm provides a credit union for the employees of its members as well and their own employees.

The 4 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990, listed largest first by expense.
