01What it does

What Climatehaven Inc does

Mission

Climatehaven is a climate tech incubator for world-class innovators and entrepreneurs working to develop, commercialize and scale breakthrough climate solutions. Our dynamic ecosystem offers access to workspace, prototyping and lab space, a network of expert advisors, mentors and investors, and a full range of company-building support to accelerate their journeys from lab to market.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Climatehaven's incubator program involves recruiting climate technology startup companies, providing them with strategic guidance, a community of peers from whom to learn, workspace, and prototyping space. In 2024, our second year of operations, we built our first iteration of incubator support programming: 1. Startup check-ins and supportive boosts (introductions to industry leaders, potential investors, potential customers, mentors, etc.). We recruited 13 additional companies to our incubator as well as six coworkers. In 2024 we also built: climb (entrepreneurship classes); the climatehaven newsletter & blog; founder fuel (lunches for relationship building and network sharing). And we developed our first industry partnership, with the regional water authority, to develop an innovation hub for water technology.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

5 of 13 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 49% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CLIMATEHAVEN INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 12 of 13 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

CLIMATEHAVEN INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 44% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

49% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CLIMATEHAVEN INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.1M arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
