01What it does

What Canstruction Houston does

Mission

To produce a unique competition and food drive where Houston area architects, engineers and construction firms and students build creative and ingenious Cansculptures with canned food and other non-perishable food items. All items are then donated to the Houston Food Bank to benefit the less fortunate throughout the greater Houston area.

As stated on its FY2020 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. Canstruction is a design/build competition showcasing the talents of design and construction industry professionals and students they mentor. Each year, teams are given just nine hours to defy expectations, logic, and gravity as they build fantastic Cansculptures from thousands of cans of food. Driven by the knowledge that their Cansculptures will change lives by lifting the spirits of those in need, by raising public awareness, and most importantly, by filling the shelves of local food banks dedicated volunteers in a variety of categories bring their creations to life. During the next week, the super-sized masterpieces are judged in a variety of categories as these unconventional art exhibits are opened to the public, the cost of admission is just one can of food. At the end of the event, all food is donated to the local Houston Food Bank.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Canstruction Houston’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of Canstruction Houston's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $10k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
