Mission

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Advertising review: This program dates from the origins of the BBB system in 1912. It consists of the systematic review of advertising in the Dallas area to determine compliance with the BBB code of advertising. The purpose is to promote trust in advertising, enhance the believability of advertising, and maintain a level of playing field for all advertisers. The BBB contacts advertisers about questionable claims, seeking substantiation or modification of the claim in question. All members are required to adhere to the BBB code, and non-members are also asked to do so. Non-compliance is detailed in the BBB reports and ratings are affected adversely. In 2025, there were 141 ad review investigations.
Reporting on companies' performance: this program consists of preparing and issuing reports on some 90,000 area companies' customer experience records. These records consist of their complaint-resolution records for the last three years, and any record of law enforcement actions relating to marketplace issues, and adherence to the BBB code of advertising. Companies are issued grades ranging from A+ to F, based on elements identified in our files. The purpose of this program is to steer consumers toward reputable firms, and away from fly-by-night and dishonest operations. A total of 5,454,041 reports were accessed by the public without charge in 2025.
Dispute resolution: this program is engaged in the conciliation and arbitration of complaints filed by consumers against area companies. The purpose is to resolve differences between companies and their customers in an effort to restore trust in the marketplace. We accomplish that purpose by accepting complaints without charge, contacting the company for response, inviting customers rebuttals when warranted, and closing companies as resolved, unresolved, or unjustified. In 2025, we processed 67,834 complaints in this fashion, with a 89.9% response rate. Collectively, the BBB system is the largest out-of-court dispute resolution mechanism in the nation.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $3.4M to $3.8M (+11%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 4 of the last 9 reported years ran a deficit.

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
