01What it does

What Atelier 17 Project does

Mission

To promote knowledge and scholarship regarding works created by artists who worked in or were influenced by Atelier 17 through a website, exhibitions, symposia, lectures, publications, and grants for the benefit of scholars and the general public.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. In 2025, the organization advanced research and public education on Atelier 17 through several core programs. It supported a major scholarly publication project on Atelier 17's history and centennial, including development of a multi-author book to be published by Skira. It also carried out an oral history project, recording, editing, and transcribing interviews with fifteen former members of Atelier 17 in order to preserve their experiences of the studio for future researchers. In addition, the organization continued to expand and improve its roster of artists associated with Atelier 17 by migrating the database to Airtable and transcribing a newly identified roster book at Tate Archives, making the data more accessible and useful to scholars and the general public. The organization also maintained its website and public outreach efforts to share research and encourage participation in these initiatives.
