What Association of Midwest Museums does
Mission
The member-focused Association of Midwest Museums connects and strengthens midwest museums by providing nationally relevant, regionally specific, accessible programs, products, and networking opportunities that promote best practices.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Served over 950 professionals through its 2025 programs, including virtual meetups, some good (museum) news webinars, annual awards programs, and the association's annual conference held virtually and in-person in the quad cities (davenport, ia), in partnership with the illinois association of museums and in cooperation with the iowa museums association. Amm welcomed 227 new members (individuals and staff of institutional or corporate members). A grant award from the institute of museum and library services (imls) was unexpectedly terminated by the administration in april 2025 and reinstated in november 2025. Work was paused during the termination/review period, and the series is now moving into final planning and production.

The association's annual conference took place virtually and in-person in the quad cities (davenport, ia), in partnership with the illinois association of museums and in cooperation with the iowa museums association. The conference included guest speakers and sessions on a variety of topics for individuals in leadership and key operating and programmatic roles in museums. Additional programs included midwest museums connect meetups focused on current trends and challenges in museums. Amm continued to maintain the museum learning hub, a cross-regional training resource for museum professionals, and developed conceptual outlines for a new management training series for the hub with federal funding from an institute of museum and library services (imls) national leadership grant for museums. The series will begin production in 2026.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $43k to $3k (−94%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
20% of ASSOCIATION OF MIDWEST MUSEUMS’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (64% for the typical peer).
