Mission
The American Planning Association is organized to advance the art and science of planning and to foster the activity of planning - physical, economic, and social - at the local, regional, state, and national levels. The apa is a non-profit public interest and research organization representing 37,000 practicing planners, officials, and citizens involved with urban and rural planning issues.sixty-five percent of apa's members are employed by state and local government agencies. These members are involved, on a day-to-day basis, in formulating planning policies and preparing land use regulations. The objective of the association is to encourage planning that will contribute to public well-being by developing communities and environments that meet the needs of people and of society more effectively.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Program
Our main program service is the hawai'I congress of planning officials (hcpo) statewide planning conference for planners and related professions, held once a year on different island each year. Tracking down our revenue/costs and will upload.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $204k to $219k (+8%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 0 of the last 3 reported years ran a deficit.
