01What it does

What American Legion Post 71 does

Mission

Programs include Child Welfare Fund, Boys State and supporting needy local veterans with food and incidental assistance.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The Texas Boys State Program is the preeminent Legion Americanism program that teaches young men to get involved in our political process and the importance of governmental leadership. The SGT Arthur O. McNitzky American Legion Post 71 Denton, Texas participates in the Texas Boys State program every year. The American Legion Department of Texas has hosted this program at the University of Austin every year since 1935. Post 71s Awards Program is part of the larger American Legions Americanism programs. Post 71s Awards Program recognizes local area high school students and ROTC cadets that demonstrate academic, athletic, and community service success. Post 71 every year donates $1000.00 to the Denton County Veterans Coalitions emergency financial relief fund as a part of the American Legions Veterans and Veteran Rehabilitation Programs. The Denton County Veterans Coalition is a 501c3 charity that uses the emergency financial relief funds to provide a one-time financial assistance to a veteran in need while working to remedy the underlying problem through local and VA services and veterans benefits.

The program described on its FY2025 Form 990.
