What American Institute of Architects does
Mission
The mission of the American Institute of Architects (aia) is to unite architects in fellowship, promote the aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession, advance the science and art of planning and building and provide educational programming for members.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Program
In 2024, aia miami produced and/or promoted over 168 workshops, educational programs, committee meetings, lectures and other programs. Highlights of the year include a year-long ckldp leadership program that mentors emerging professionals and strengthens their leadership skills. Another highlight was a 2-week architects in the making summer camp for over 80 students ages 8-16. This stem camp worked in concert with our black architects in the making organization that provided 12 full scholarships. Architect education included over 50 classes that provided continuing education credits. The majority of aia miami's programming in 2024 was free of charge and open to the public (tours, workshops and networkers). Collaborations include work with the miami center for architecture & design, the university of miami school of architecture, and florida international university's school of architecture. Approximately $10,000 in scholarships and grants were given to students, architecture students, and grants were given to allow students and emerging professionals to attend professional conferences.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $393k to $573k (+46%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 1 of the last 8 reported years ran a deficit.

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
