Programs
Government affairs: the American Hotel & Lodging Association (ahla) is committed to promoting innovative policy solutions that elevate the domestic lodging industry and the millions of jobs it supports. Ahla's advocacy agenda includes supporting and promoting our workforce, protecting our guests and the guest experience, ensuring a level playing field with alternative accommodations platforms that impact neighborhoods and affordable housing, highlighting our industries commitment to sustainable practices and promoting travel and tourism. Ahla works in a bipartisan, bicameral manner to advocate for policies so that our industry, our employees and the communities across the country where we operate continue to thrive.
Member engagement:1. Independent hotel rooms were up 40% in membership 2. Signed an agreement with hotel association of canada to launch green key global certification throughout north america. 3. Member satisfaction rose to 79% in 2023 relative to 68% in 2019.
Signature conferences & events: ahla develops, manages, and operates numerous high-quality conferences and events annually, domestically and abroad, providing its membership with valuable information, research, and networking opportunities. These events generate significant revenue through registration fees and sponsorships, supporting the association's mission. In 2023, ahla's conference and events program featured a robust calendar of programming, strong member attendance and engagement, and the successful launch of the hospitality show, a new trade show developed in partnership with questex.
Markting and communications:the marketing and communications department's (marcomm) mission is to communicate the message of ahla and the hotel industry to our members, staff, and the public. Our messaging targets each audience directly and is supported by data. We harness the knowledge and expertise of the entire ahla team. The marcomm department is organized into four teams: marketing, media relations, content, and internal and executive communications.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $28M to $34M (+24%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 5 of the last 8 reported years ran a deficit.

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.

From the IRS filings of AMERICAN HOTEL & LODGING ASSOCIATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
AMERICAN HOTEL & LODGING ASSOCIATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 78% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
79% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund AMERICAN HOTEL & LODGING ASSOCIATION.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2021 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
