In-state share
The share of a state's grant dollars that stay within that state.
In-state share is the portion of grants made by funders based in a state that reach organizations also located in that state, rather than organizations elsewhere. A high share means local funders mostly back local causes; a low one means the money largely leaves.
It is a simple measure of how locally a state's philanthropy circulates, and it varies widely. Some states keep most of their giving at home, while fund domiciles grant almost everywhere.
